Leader Bios

Jennifer McGarry, Consultant, JL McGarry Consulting
Jenny McGarry, DBA, CPA has over 20 years of experience in the financial service industry including wealth management, banking, and public accounting and over ten years of experience teaching accounting, most recently as an Adjunct Instructor at University of Northern Iowa. Throughout her career she has developed a strong interest in helping students and young professionals explore the tremendous opportunities available in the accounting industry. In addition to staying active in her community, she is currently a member of the ISCPA’s Career Awareness Committee, the Pathways to CPA Licensure Taskforce, and is a member of the Iowa Society of CPAs Board of Directors. She lives in rural DeWitt with her husband and four children.

Monica Steckel, Assurance Managing Director, Ernst & Young LLP
Monica Steckel, CPA, is a managing director in EY's FSO Assurance practice with over 13 years of experience serving publicly and privately held clients in the financial services industry, with a focus on life and property casualty insurers. She has been an active member of the ISCPA organization since receiving her license, and most recently served as the chair of the membership committee. She has a passion for meeting young people and educating them on the career possibilities available to CPAs, and has presented on the profession at high schools and universities across the state. Monica received her Masters of Accountancy from the University of Northern Iowa, where she met her husband (another CPA). They live in Waukee with their two active children.

Suzanna De Baca, CEO, Story Board Advisors LLC
Suzanna de Baca is an experienced CEO, board director, writer and respected leadership expert. Her distinguished career spans diverse sectors, where she has consistently driven growth and navigated complex organizational challenges.
As CEO of Story Board Advisors, Suzanna provides strategic counsel to CEOs, boards, and family businesses, emphasizing collaboration and innovation. Her leadership journey includes significant success as CEO of Business Publications Corporation (BPC), where she spearheaded growth and industry recognition. Under her leadership, BPC was consistently recognized as a “Top Ten Publisher to Watch” by Editor & Publisher. She also served as CEO of a regional healthcare organization and for over two decades held senior executive roles in investment management at several Fortune 250 and privately held companies. An accomplished board director, she contributes to the governance of various organizations, including Bill Jacobs Companies, Community State Bank, and Lauridsen Group, Inc.
Suzanna is a recognized thought leader who has been featured in prominent publications like The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, Forbes and Directorship Magazine, where she shares insights on leadership, organizational culture, and governance. Named a “Top 50 Women in Media for 2024,” she holds an BA from Iowa State University, an MBA from Harvard Business School, is a NACD Certified Director and an International Coaching Federation Certified Executive Coach. She is a faculty member at Iowa State University’s Ivy College of Business, where she teaches leadership and organizational behavior.
