Overview

This is part 4 of a 4 part series.

This session continues the discussion about external data and digs into the details for retrieving data from other sources. We’ll pull data from an Access data base using Microsoft Query. You’ll learn how to retrieve data from simple text files as well, and how to prepare data for use with Excel. This webcast concludes by examining several data visualization tools in Excel, including PivotCharts.

Prerequisites

Familiarity with Excel tables and formula-based reporting concepts

Objectives

  • Determine the process for creating a PivotChart.
  • Recognize the option that imports external data directly into a PivotTable.
  • Recall which Excel feature creates a chart within a single worksheet cell.

Jeff Lenning

Jeff Lenning is in charge of the day-to-day management and operations of Click Consulting. He is a nationally recognized speaker, author, and trainer, and provides Microsoft Excel and Access training to enterprise clients and provides continuing education to CPAs on technology related topics including Excel and Access. The Journal of Accountancy and other publications have featured many of his technology related articles. Lenning is heavily involved in the accounting profession. He is a former chair of the California CPA State Technology Committee, the co-chair of the California CPA OCLB Chapter Technology Committee, a Board Member of the California CPA OCLB Chapter, on the California Society of CPAs Council, and an instructor for the AICPA and the California CPA Education Foundation. He is a Microsoft Office Certified Excel Expert. He began his career at Arthur Andersen in the Orange County office in the audit practice. He then worked at Gateway computers as a Senior Financial Analyst, and then at Interpore Cross International as the Accounting Manager. In 2000, he started Click Consulting, a technology consulting firm which specializes in network support and web-application development.
